Shiro, the world’s most relaxed cat, has died
Shiro – one of the internet’s most recognisable cats – has passed away at 18, according to an Instagram post by his fans.
You’ve likely seen pictures of Shironeko at some point, with his completely chilled-out face becoming iconic, especially after a video of him sleeping as snails crawled over him went viral.
In fact, this particular video has now been viewed over 1.2 million times on Shiro’s YouTube channel alone.
Shironeko – which translates from his native Japanese into English as white cat – was more than happy to have things balanced on him while he slept, or to be pictured covered in flowers.
He was so chilled he’d fall asleep anywhere – once even on the tyre of his owner’s car (thankfully while it was stationary) and once with an aubergine on his head.
The Instagram post that announced Shiro’s passing read: ‘Our beloved Shironeko March 8th, 2002 – March 2nd, 2020’ and was coupled with a gallery of pictures of him doing what he did best – relaxing.
The 18-year-old Turkish Van cat received a number of tributes in the comments and through separate posts, with one person saying: ‘RIP Shiro you were loved by all that seen you, I will miss your beautiful face. On to the rainbow bridge.’
Others posted artwork of Shi, or shared their favourite pictures of him being his usual adorable self.
It’s not clear how Shiro died, but at the ripe old age of 18 he’s not too far off a domestic cat’s average lifespan.
We’re just glad he managed to have a good innings, smell all the flowers, and make friends with all the other animals he came into contact with.
